One piece sweater

I would make more sweaters if there wasn’t so darn much seaming involved. I find seaming tedious and it makes me sad that it produces so many more ends to weave in. To that end, I decided to come up with a sweater pattern that would be good for a beginner and would require minimal seaming. This one requires only two. The body and sleeves of this one are made in a single piece and require only one seam up each side. Simple!

Since this is the first clothing pattern I’ve ever made that wasn’t a shawl or a scarf, I was a little unsure at the beginning. I wanted a stitch that would produce a nice, warm fabric that wouldn’t require a liner, slip, or under shirt. I also think the Trinity Stitch created a lovely texture for a warm winter sweater.

I designed this with a boat neck and loose rather than shaped sleeves. My biggest mistake was in the choice of yarns, not because it isn’t pretty, but because it’s painfully hard to match up strips and joining yarn when you’re working with a gradient yarn. Live and learn, I always say.

Since I am not yet confident of my sweater designing skills, this pattern is free and I welcome all corrections and comments. And as always, there is no AI involved in either my patterns or my images. If I had used AI, my photos would look a lot better.

I hope you enjoy making this.
