A Quilt-inspired Afghan
For reasons I can’t explain, I see a lot of quilts come across my Pinterest feed. All of them are gorgeous but only a few can be translated into a workable crochet design. This one particularly inspired me and I just happened to have 15 skein of Oatmeal yarn sitting in my stash. Don’t ask. When all was said and done, I only had 7 skeins, so I guess you could call this a stash buster.
The entire blanket measures 47 by 67 inches, with the border. It is worked entirely in single crochet, except for the border, which is worked in Camel Stitch. Squares and triangles are joined together much as a quilt would be, and then the border added to finish it off. Sometimes I design patterns to purposely force myself to work on skills that I haven’t yet mastered. For this one, it was the top stitching and precision joining. The sole reason I don’t quilt is because I lack the patience to be precise in my cutting and stitching. This blanket forced me to be patient…and precise…and to take the time to make the top stitching nice and even. I call it a win.
If you’re interested in making this blanket, you can find the pattern here. I hope you love this pattern as much as I do and that you have as much fun making it as I did. The next time we talk, I’ll have a much smaller but cuter pattern for you. Call it an Easter present.
